.."Replica car manufacturer Superformance will add complete turn-key cars to its current offering of rolling chassis vehicles, the company announced. The move is possible thanks to the newly passed Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015.
The new law allows small-volume automakers to offer complete cars for purchase. Replica vehicle bodies must resemble a vehicle at least 25 years old and the replica vehicle manufacturer must have permission from the original manufacturer or current owner of said vehicle’s rights to produce the replica. Additionally, the engine used in the replica vehicle must meet the emissions requirements of the year the vehicle is assembled.
“After years of building the best continuation and replica cars in the world we are thrilled to finally offer our customers the option to buy a turn-key car right off the showroom floors of our dealers,” said Lance Stander, CEO of Superformance, LLC, in a release. “Now that we will be recognized by the government as a low-volume manufacturer, customers can walk in, buy a car and drive away just like any other new vehicle purchase, which will also streamline financing, registration, and insurance options.”
Superformance builds several different replica vehicle models, including Shelby-licensed Mk II and Mk III Roadsters, the Safir-Licensed Ford GT40, GM-licensed Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, and Continuation Shelby Cobra and Shelby Daytona Coupe models. The new models will feature a federally assigned VIN tag.
Backed by SEMA, the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015, which was included in the highway funding bill, was signed into law last week. Under the act, replica vehicles will be built and registered under the oversight of the NHTSA and EPA."
