Sadly, Bob Bondurant recently passed away. A global racing hero, Bob was a close friend and supporter of everyone at Superformance. He was a Superformance dealer and helped raise the profile of our company worldwide.

This was another page in an amazing career. He raced everything from motorcycles to Formula 1, winning every step of the way. One of his greatest accomplishments was helping Shelby American win the FIA World Championship driving both the FIA Cobra and Shelby Daytona Coupe versions of the legendary Shelby Cobra.

When an accident ended his driving career, Bob shared his knowledge and expertise with the world through his school and consulting. He improved the skills of thousands of drivers and provided valuable input on the development of various cars.

Over the years, Bob became a close friend and advisor to the team at Superformance and Shelby Legendary Cars. Working directly with Bob, we launched a special “Shelby CSX2000 Bondurant Tribute 289” Cobra and Daytona Coupe CSX2000 and CSX9000 series a few years ago. These cars celebrated the famous driver’s contributions to racing and the Shelby American team.

Bob was an early supporter of Superformance.  In 1995, he joined Superformance founder Jim Price and Bob Olthoff (former race driver for Essex Shelby Cobra team) to prepare Superformance for the "Run and Gun" event at Phoenix Firebird Raceway.  Bob allowed Olthoff to prepare the car at his facility where the build was recorded by Kit Car Magazine as a "8 Hour Kit" story. The idea was to take a new Superformance rolling chassis an install an engine and transmission; that car was entered and raced at the event. After the race, while Bob Bondurant had so much fun on the track that he decided to order several cars both for the driving school and for public.

Eventually he retired from selling cars to focus on his driving school operations. Bob Bondurant remained a friend and collaborated on the Daytona Coupe project with Superformance, as well as the 289 Tribute Shelby series cars.

We will miss Bob very much, but his legacy will live on through his students and the two wonderful series of Shelby Cobras and Daytona’s.
